They might not always get the most attention – but the San Francisco Civil Grand Jury is the granddaddy of “crowdsourcing” public policy. This group of hardworking citizens takes a look at public policy issues and creates their own reports – which you can view here.

These reports cover everything from hot button issues like pension liability to the really controversial topics like how cars and bicycles can better share the road. What’s also a good read is the mandatory response to the audits supplied by the San Francisco Controller, also available here.

Now the Grand Jury is looking for new members for next year’s panel. Do you believe that our government works best when more people are involved? If you do, here’s an application.

The applications are due by April 15 – so sign up now if you want to make your voice heard.

[In typical Gov 1.0 fashion, the application is a pdf, not a form. You can return the form to The Civil Grand Jury, 400 McAllister St., Room 008, San Francisco, CA 94102 or give them a call at (415) 551-3605 during business hours.]
