Telsa, Honda, Toyota, Mitsubishi, and all other major car companies (including luxury cars like Audi) have jumped in to start a new wave of cars. From gas to hybrid, and now--electric. The reality is most people do not drive more than 40 miles a day, and even less if you live in SF (because of MUNI, BART, etc). Even if you do drive more than the standard, adding charging stations (that could be hooked up to solar panels or next to parking meters) would prevent anyone from getting stuck.
