Here are a few ways you can give back to your community this Thanksgiving

Reset San Francisco wishes you a very happy Thanksgiving. Whether you’re looking forward to mashed potatoes or pumpkin pie, we hope you enjoy a lovely meal surrounded by your friends and family. In keeping with the spirit of the holiday season, it is important to recognize how many San Franciscans do not have the means to celebrate a festive and bountiful Thanksgiving. There are several ways you can give back to our community this year, from participating in a 5K to chatting with a homebound senior on Thanksgiving morning. The following is a list of a few organizations spreading holiday cheer this Thanksgiving – gobble gobble!

Meals on Wheels

Every Thanksgiving, Meals on Wheels (MoW) sponsors an annual meal delivery event in San Francisco. The organization needs 400 volunteers to make food deliveries to homebound and isolated seniors who would otherwise be unable to celebrate the holiday. The meal delivery event is an excellent (and free!) opportunity to help fellow San Francisco residents.  Volunteers can sign up by emailing Danie Belfield at [email protected]. You can learn more about the event here.

Thanksgiving Day Home Visits

No one wants to spend the holidays alone but it is an unfortunate reality facing many homebound residents and seniors. Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly matches volunteers with members of our community who might otherwise spend Thanksgiving alone. Learn more about the event and how you can help here.

Thanksgiving Day 5K

Want to get in a quick workout before your Thanksgiving meal? Participate in San Francisco’s annual Thanksgiving Day 5K! All proceeds and donations from this event will benefit the San Francisco and Marin County Food Bank. Learn more about the event and sign up here.

Help Us End Hunger Campaign

Sponsored by Safeway, you can help those in need this holiday season by purchasing pre-loaded grocery bags for your local food bank. Shoppers can purchase these bags for $10 dollars from November 22 through December 25 at any Safeway location. Learn more about the Help Us End Hunger Campaign here.

Volunteering with one these organizations this Thanksgiving is a great way to spend time with your family and give back to those in need. Happy Thanksgiving from Reset San Francisco!
