Hayes Valley, set in the center of San Francisco between McAllister Street to the north and Market Street in the south, has gone through a renaissance in recent decades. It is now considered a hotspot for shoppers, diners and drinkers a-like. Its many bars, restaurants, boutiques and art galleries attract a stream of visitors.
Hayes Valley’s atmosphere is one of So-Ho cool. The increased popularity of the area has been consequently been matched by a boost in the success of its commercial district. A unique landmark in the area is Hayes Valley Farm. The farm was set up in 1989 to make use of vacant green space, available as the result of the closing of San Francisco’s central freeway in the area. It serves as a neighborhood urban farm and has helped to preserve the sense of community in the area despite its increased popularity with non-residents.
