Adopt a StreetBy removing graffiti immediately you discourage repeat tagging.

Hi, Just a friendly reminder that San Francisco DPW has an "Adopt a Street" program. This allows neighborhood groups or individuals to volunteer to help keep their neighborhoods clean and tidy.
I joined as an individual about 7 or 8 years ago and I cover any graffiti on the mailboxes and trash containers near my home. By removing graffiti immediately you discourage repeat tagging. Although I was out this morning covering the latest round of tagging, there has been a steady drop in tagging over the years so it really does make a difference.
Here's the cool part: The DPW will supply the paint for free and they deliver the supplies to your door. I have cans of mailbox green, mailbox blue, and garbage can green. If you want to clean up trash on your street - there are some streets that seem to be wind magnets for trash - the program will supply rakes, brooms, bags, etc.
If you want to volunteer to be a part of the Adopt A Street program - or if you're just curious to learn more about the program - check out their web site at http://sfdpw.org/index.aspx?page=1229 I have enjoyed my years of keeping my little corner of SF graffiti free.
