Empty Tour Bus Catches Fire Along Panhandle

Firefighters responded to the Panhandle in San Francisco this morning after passersby reported smoke coming from a parked tour bus, fire department spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge said.
The fire department received reports at about 6:35 a.m. of smoke pouring from a bus near Oak and Cole streets.
Within minutes, firefighters had water on the flames, which were coming from the unoccupied bus' engine compartment, Talmadge said.
No one was aboard the bus -- not even the driver -- and no injuries were reported.
As for the cause, Talmadge said it is not uncommon for engine fires to start suddenly.
"Things like that happen," she said. "It could have been an electrical short."
