An elderly woman was attacked while boarding a San Francisco Municipal Railway bus in the city's Mission District on Monday morning, police said today.

The attack occurred at about 11:05 a.m. near Mission and 24th streets.

As the 82-year-old victim got on the bus, she was pushed by another woman, and in turn pushed her back. The second woman then punched the victim several times, causing her to fall out of the bus and hit her head on the sidewalk, police said.

She was taken to San Francisco General Hospital to be treated for injuries that are not considered life-threatening, according to police.

The suspect, a woman believed to be between 25 and 28 years old, fled on foot and had not been found as of this morning, police said.

Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call the Police Department's anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or send a tip by text message to TIP411 with "SFPD" in the message.
