There are certain items which require special disposal and can therefore not be thrown away in our regular San Francisco black landfill bins. These items are called hazardous waste and include:

Latex and oil paint
Asbestos
Florescent tubes and bulbs
Used motor oil
Cleaning solutions
Batteries
Road flares
Pesticides
Aerosols
Used cooking oil

San Francisco residents will need to drive their hazardous waste to the Households Hazardous Waste Facility, located at 501 Tunnel Avenue, San Francisco, CA. The Recology Center phone number is (415) 330-1400. Remember to bring proof of your San Francisco residency in order to use the facility.  There is also a 15 gallon limit of liquid per day.  Check out the SF Environment website for more details.
