South of Market, also known as SoMa, is one of San Francisco’s biggest districts, extending from Embarcadero to Eleventh Street, between Market and Townsend. As such, it is an extremely diverse area with and array of local attractions. The neighborhood offers numerous restaurants, bars and other leisure spots in addition to its commercial character, with a sprawl of warehouses and wholesale shopping marts in the west of the district. SoMa is also home to many tech companies including Twitter, CNET, Wired and BitTorrent Inc. The area used to have a reputation for loud nightclubs but, like the rest of SoMa, it has become more residential in recent years.
The district is a center for art with the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SF MoMa), the Museum of the African Diaspora and the Jewish Contemporary Museum just three of its many treasures. It also hosts the AT&T Park, located in the China Basin sub-neighborhood, is the home of the World Series winning Giants baseball team. These tourist destinations confirm SoMa as a dynamic district for visitors and residents as well as businesses.
