San Francisco’s Chinatown is the oldest in North America and is home to the largest Chinese community outside of Asia. Pass under the Dragon Gate (Gateway Arch) to explore this vibrant cultural area that overlaps five zip codes and covers a 1 mile by 1.34 mile section of our city. The area served as a port of entry for many Chinese immigrants during the late 19th century, and still serves as home to over 100,000 people and over two-thirds of San Francisco’s ethnic Chinese population.

Drawing more visitors annually than the Golden Gate Bridge, Chinatown boasts a plethora of outdoor markets and venders along the picturesque Waverly Place, stunning temples such as Tien Hau and the Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory, where over 20,000 cookies are handmade daily in traditional Chinese fashion.
