In contrast to the often busier Inner Richmond, the Outer Richmond is a calmer area with much more of a neighborhood feel. However, the waves of immigrants throughout the years yielded a prevalence of Mexican, Russian, French and Italian restaurants along Geary Boulevard. Despite being somewhat forgotten for many years and being dubbed “The Great Sand Waste” by some, today the Outer Richmond is a destination for many with valuable real estate throughout the district.

In an attempt to make the Outer Richmond more appealing to homebuyers, many tried to rename it “Park Presidio,” though the name failed to catch on. Perhaps the most defining trait of the area is the weather. Fog can fade to sun and return back rapidly, making for quite an adventure for many visiting the beach.
