The event begins at 6:30pm with the screening beginning at 7pm. It is located at San Francisco State University’s Creative Arts Building, Studio One. The event is free and open to the public.

The premier of Building a Bridge:

San Francisco, California is home to more than 800,000 people, as well as major tech giants like Google, Twitter, Zynga and Craigslist. A hotbed for a thriving new economy. With evidence of new technological advances all around, one might assume that everyone in the Bay Area is on board…but this is not the case. Whole demographics of people who are not technologically savvy are being left behind; creating what is known as the digital divide. Building A Bridge focuses on how the digital divide came about, and how organizations here in the Bay Area are providing digital literacy and opportunity to demographics of people who lack the resources necessary to advance with technology, and will show you what life is like for someone on the other side of the divide.

The event will feature delicious appetizers and snacks (provided in part by The Lookout Bar) refreshments, sangria and a photo booth to capture plenty of smiles. (provided by Magnolia Photo Booth Co.) Black Girls Code creator Kimberly Bryant (featured on ABC 7 News) and other community thought leaders will be at the event.

Other great student-produced films will include:

Forgotten Memories:

Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States and the only cause of death among the top 10 that cannot be prevented, cured or even slowed. Forgotten Memories takes viewers on a journey through the lens of an individual experiencing the early stages of the disease and informs you of the resources available for families, friends, and caregivers. Join us on this informative and emotional journey that will leave you more aware of the severity of this disease.

The Last Rotation:

A look into the lives and experiences of a family oriented workforce that suffered through the closure of the largest manufacturing plant in California. On April 1st, 2010 many hopes and dreams were crushed, leaving the city wounded and many lives in ruin. The Last Rotation shows how quickly the American dream can disappear in today’s economy. Listen to the voices of hurt and abandonment and witness the resolve and fight of a brotherhood that refuses to be forgotten.
