Yes. You are however required to have at least $1.25 loaded on your card prior to boarding the Caltrain. Riders can pay for a Caltrain Monthly Pass, an 8-ride pass or by adding pay as your go cash value to the card. These purchases can be done online at the Clipper, by calling customer service at or by visiting a retailer like Walgreens.

It can take up to 3 – 5 days to load value to your Clipper Card if you order by phone. For more information on the timing for adding value, click here.

Unlike riding MUNI, you are required to tag off at your destination station. This ensures you are not overcharged for your ride. See the Caltrain customer guide for more information about how to use your Clipper Card on Caltrain.
