Once you sign your marriage certificate, you are eligible to legally change your last name. You will also need to file name change paperwork through the Department of Motor Vehicles and the Social Security Administration. Once you legally register your name change with the necessary San Francisco city and government departments, you will also want to notify other agencies of your new legal name, such as your employer and your bank. Your marriage record will not contain your new changed name however, since your legal name at the time of the marriage is your maiden last name.
