The aftermath of an earthquake or natural disaster isn’t always talked about, but it is important to act safely even after the shaking stops. The Earthquake and Hazards Program website makes a list of  recommendation for the best course of action following an earthquake. The first step is to check yourself and then your loved ones for injuries. Often times the shock of an earthquake can temporarily numb any pain you might feel from acquired injuries during the incident. Next, look around for potential hazards such as fires, gas leaks or unsecured household items that might cause a problem. Tune your radio to receive emergency bulletins and get yourself to a safe place to prepare for aftershocks.
