On Monday, June 25, join the Commonwealth Club for a discussion with UCSD Political Science Professor Sam Popkin as he discusses his new book “The Candidate: What It Takes to Win—And Hold—The White House”. Sam Popkin has been a consulting analyst inpresidential campaigns, serving as consultant to the Clinton campaign on polling and strategy, to the CBS News election units from 1983 to 1990 on survey design and analysis, and more recently to the Gore campaign. He has also served as consultant to political parties in Canada and Europe and to the Departments of State and Defense.

There are two winners in every presidential election campaign: The inevitable winner when it begins and the inevitable victor after it ends. In The Candidate, Samuel Popkin explains the difference between them. A campaign veteran and political expert, Popkin will share his take on the politics of presidential campaigns. This topic couldn’t be timelier amid the ongoing primaries and the upcoming presidential election. Filled with entertaining characters and lively stories from campaigns past, his new book takes a look at previous elections and brings us up to speed on the 2012 election season.

This event will be at 6pm on Monday, June 25 at the Commonwealth Club’s offices in San Francisco. We would be delighted to offer tickets at our member discounted rate by entering the code specialforpopkin when registering for tickets on our website at http://bit.ly/Popkin. We hope to see you there!
